tvc CLI ships with an agent skill, tvc-deployments, that teaches AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor how to drive the CLI. It is written in the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file plus a references/ directory the agent reads when it needs command-by-command detail.
The skill is embedded in the tvc binary and installed from it, so the copy you have always documents the CLI at the version you installed.
What the skill covers
- The deployment lifecycle. Scaffolding and creating an app, creating and approving a deployment, polling until it is live, and switching traffic to a new deployment.
- The JSON output contract. Running every command with
--message-format json, parsing the NDJSON stdout, and branching on outcomereasons and errorcodes instead of message text. - Maintaining an established app. Finding apps and deployments, shipping a new version, reading debug logs, and rolling back or cleaning up.
- Guardrails. Which commands are destructive, why non-interactive approval is blind, and when to stop and ask a human.
tvc login, dashboard key registration). That is what the quickstart is for. Wallet, signing, and policy work over the HTTP API is covered by the other Turnkey agent skills.
Install
Install the CLI if you have not already, then save the bundled skill into a skills directory. By default it writes to the project-level./.claude/skills:
tvc-deployments/SKILL.md and tvc-deployments/references/ under the chosen root. You can also set the root with the TVC_SKILLS_DIR environment variable.
Keep it in sync
Re-runtvc skills save after upgrading tvc. The command rewrites files that match an older bundled version and leaves files you have edited locally untouched. Pass --force to replace locally modified files with the version bundled in your binary.
Credentials
The skill authenticates the same way the CLI does: either all three ofTVC_ORG_ID, TVC_API_KEY_PUBLIC, and TVC_API_KEY_PRIVATE set in the environment, or a profile created earlier with tvc login. These are separate from the TURNKEY_API_* variables used by the HTTP API skills.
Source
The skill lives in the tkhq/rust-sdk repository next to the CLI code. To read it without installing anything, open the rawSKILL.md.
